Orchard Stars - the Satsuma One

Orchard Stars - the Satsuma One

Our newest pattern Orchard Stars is here! If you haven't seen, the Cover Orchard Stars is up on the blog too!
Today, I am sharing our Satsuma Orchard Stars! This quilt showcases our Two Color Design option. I have always enjoyed a two color quilt and this design felt like it needed a two color option. It makes the courthouse steps blocks and sawtooth stars really stand out while it also showcases the designs negative space beautifully.
I had a really hard time deciding which two colors to use! I toyed and played and designed so many versions. I almost went with this all blue one and I still want to make it one day. Here are all the other versions we debated using before landing on the one we used.
The two colors we landed on are Ruby + Bee in Russet and Delphinium. And we decided to make the Large Throw size which finishes at 68" x 74". We have Satsuma kits in stock!
Color 1 is the fabric that will showcase the Courthouse Steps patchwork and the Sawtooth Stars. Color 2 acts as the background fabric aka all the lovely negative space. For us, Russet is Color 1 and Delphinium is Color 2.
When making the Two Color Orchard Stars, you can batch sew the entire quilt if you'd like! It is a fun make that lets you be as repetitive as you want, so you can get into the zone. Do you sew while watching or listening to something? I either sew in silence or I listen to music or watch TV. I love being able to sort of mentally clock out and just make make make.
Once all the blocks are finished, I hung them back up on the design wall to keep myself organized and I started to sew my rows together.
This quilt top came together so quickly with all the batch sewing and nesting of seams!
I sent this quilt top off to Ashley of Hen House Quilting! We met in person at QuiltCon this year and I am so thrilled to have another amazing woman to help me quilt up my tops! She absolutely gets I love dense quilting and quilted the most gorgeous metallic gold thread into this quilt.
This quilt is repetitive and bold in its simplicity, and I thought it's the perfect top to add a fun quilting design to. I chose the Lattice Cone Flower design by Sew Shabby Quilting. It turned out STUNNING.
I backed the quilt top in Ruby Star Society Speckled in Polar and bound it in a soft peach color from Ruby + Bee called Peachy Keen.

We have this Satsuma Quilt in kits available on our website! I heard somewhere recently that a fun design feature when you feel like a room needs something a little extra is to add a pop of red. And I really do believe it. Red provides this slice of color and warmth and joy and it livens up any space.
Speaking of Red... here is Redford. He always wants to be in the shots.

We have three more Orchard Star Quilts to share and boy are the good!!
