Orchard Stars - Lakeside

Orchard Stars - Lakeside

I am back today to share our Lakeside Orchard Stars Quilt! To caught up, Orchard Stars is our newest TCJ Quilt Pattern! And I have blogged our Cover Orchard Stars and our Satsuma Orchard Stars.
Orchard Stars includes six sizes and the Lakeside Quilt finishes at 68" x 74" - our Large Throw size. I love a generous sized throw quilt to use on a couch, a chair or at a picnic! It took me awhile to decide on the colors for this sample but I loved the idea of showcasing some kind of print for the star fabric. I toyed around with lots of different color ways!
Christy, our newest studio assistant was hired last fall and she mentioned she hasn't seen me do a neutral color palette. And I took it on as a challenge; I would make this in my version of a neutral. I was going through my Ruby + Bee swatches and kept leaning towards the variety of grays - warms and cools. And then I landed on Blush as the background and had to pick a print fabric for the stars. At the time, we had just received in some gorgeous plaids from Fableism and it was the perfect fit to finish out this palette!
And of course, I was a little anxious and nervous to get the fabrics on hand because digital mock ups are only so good at seeing the visual. A lot of times digital screens and actual color is very different in real life.
I really do love how the colors bounce off each other and the Blush background fabric is so soothing. And I forgot to take almost any photos while sewing all the blocks. The only photos I did remember to take were of working on the flying geese.

I love working with plaids and stripes and ginghams. I love leaning into cutting apart a very obvious pattern and putting it back together imperfectly. It makes me happy and reminds me that things don't have to line up to be good. They are already inherently good.

I am so thrilled with how these blocks turned out. The plaid stars really sing in this quilt.
I couldn't stop taking photos of this one. Christy said it was her favorite one yet! She also is a big fan of blues so I think that is another reason why.
I wanted to make sure our backing fabric was soft, just like our pieced top. I did want it to have a bit of playfulness to it so we went with a Ruby Star Society Speckled in Confetti.
And I sent this quilt off to Ashley of Hen House Quilting along with the Satsuma Quilt. And I wanted to choose a pantograph that also had a plaid design to it. I chose the Plaid Stars pantograph from Sew Shabby Quilting.
I bound this top is Bella Bettys Blue and it's the perfect compliment to the blue tones in the plaid stars. Also, this quilting is SO GOOD. I love that it's 1. plaid. 2. has stars in it. Could not be more perfect, right?!

I am really happy with this Orchard Stars. Would you consider this a neutral style quilt?
We have Lakeside Quilt Kits in the shop in all six sizes! We also have the Speckled Confetti Backing and the Betty's Blue Binding!
