Brilliance - the Star Adventure one

We are sharing our last Brilliance Bundle quilt sample with you today! Our Brilliance Bundle is our 5th Robert Kaufman FQ Bundle that is available now in our shop. We have three other blogposts ready for your ready to get you caught up on all things Brilliance:
My 5th Robert Kaufman Bundle - Brilliance
Brilliance - the Goldie one
Brilliance - the Jawbreaker one
Today, it's time to talk about our Brilliance Star Adventure sample! Our Star Adventure Quilt Pattern is an incredibly robust and versatile quilt pattern. It is beginner friendly, includes seven sizes and has sooooooo many adventure paths you can walk to create endless different Star Adventure quilts.
For our sample, we decided to make the Medium Throw size that finishes at 55" x 69". We chose the Adventure Assembly using Fat Quarters for both the Stars and the Background AND we used the extra fat quarter fabric to create scrappy sashing. This size requires 20 FQs and our Brilliance Bundle has 24 in it, so we set aside 4 of the Kona Cotton colors.
Here are the final colors we used in our quilt and the mock up we created to base our make off of:
In this design style in Star Adventure, you separate your FQs into a stack of Background FQs and Star FQs. We wanted to have a good mix of colors within each stack. We focused a bit more on the pinks/purples in the Background stack and more reds and corals in the Star stack. Here are the cut fabrics separated by Background and Star cuts.
And here are the extra strips cut from the Fat Quarters that will become the scrappy sashing later in the make.
We like to print off our mock up if we are trying to match mostly what I created digitally. We don't always do this but sometime it helps when we are mixing and matching. Each FQ provides enough cuts for two blocks - so one FQ gets you two background cuts for two blocks and one FQ can get you two star cuts for two blocks.
For this version of Star Adventure, we also chose to do Mixed Up Stars which means the center square and the points are made from two different fabrics. It is a fun way to create a bit more movement and sparkle in the final top.
When we are working on these special project bundles, we are typically under a tight timeline. And thankfully, the Star Adventure blocks are super fast and we zoomed right through all 20 of them!
Once all of our blocks were finished, it was time to lay them out on our design wall. Once we liked the placement, then we started laying out the scrappy sashing strips in between the blocks in the rows.
We tried to make sure that the sashing pieces that touched a block were from a different color in these horizontal rows. And, we wanted the colors to feel random and spaced out well. Once that was done, then it was time to sew them into their rows!
Now it was time to make our long sashing strips for between all the rows. This we did do randomly with the strips we had left. And then we just attached them row by row.
And when we finished, we pressed all our seams open and have a GORGEOUS finished quilt top!
I mean the light in our studio really showed off this day. It is insanely stunning and magical and I love it so much. The vibrancy and life I wanted the Brilliance Bundle to have is completely shown off here.
I sent this off to Emily of So Sunny Quilts along with the other 2 samples we made. I decided on backing this quilt in Kona Bubble Gum and bind it in Citrus. And I wanted to lean into the brightness of this top and so I chose neon thread in a really fun pantograph called Meadow. It is bouncy and happy and curved. So good.

The bright yellow binding is the perfect highlight that compliments the bright neon thread color. And the texture is amazing.
We hang our quilts up by using the tiniest little nails in the upper corners. They are basically the same size as a sewing machine needle. And right before we take the quilt down, I love to let the quilt hang for a couple minutes at an angle and snap some photos. Don't worry, I don't rip any of my quilts!
And there we go! Our Brilliance Bundle is in our shop now and the Star Adventure Quilt is such a fun pattern!
And here are some photos of all three of our samples together.
