TCJ April Make of the Month - Granny Cabin

TCJ April Make of the Month - Granny Cabin

In 2022, we had a challenge for ourselves - revisit a TCJ pattern once a month and make a new sample. It was fun and it created a lot of beautiful quilts. It is now February 2023 and I've only blogged 4 of all of the 12 makes from last year. Woops! I am going to be working my way through each finished quilt and getting them up on the blog! The first one up on the parade of TCJ makes from 2022 is Granny Cabin! We spent last April sewing together this beautiful flannel quilt. The bundle we used is called Cozy Season by Emily Dennis of Quilty Love. I believe the bundle is still in production, so you should be able to find some on the internet!
The Cozy Season Bundle includes 15 different Mammoth Flannel FQs and the Granny Cabin Pattern requires 10 FQs. We also decided to use Kona Doeskin for the background fabric. It is such a nice warm soft neutral color and pairs beautifully for these FQs.
The Granny Cabin Quilt Pattern is a great beginner friendly pattern and you can use FQs or 2.5" x WOF strips and even includes scrappy information inside! The pattern utilizes strip piecing which makes the sewing quick and effecient!
These colors are so beautiful, I love the variation in saturation. And I've always been a fan of plaids and windowpane cut up and sew back together.
I love how this quilt turned out. We snapped a few photos in our house and I had just gotten the most beautiful fresh flowers from a neighborhood stand.
I sent this quilt off to Kaitlyn of Knot and Thread Design. I chose a pantograph called Propel by the Longarm League and we used a light pink thread for the stitching. The texture of the pantograph is so good along with the flannel. Very cozy quilt indeed!
We backed the quilt in a light pink solid, I don't remember the name. And we bound it in a white and black Yarn Dyed Essex Linen Woven grid fabric. I love how the binding compliments the flannel without taking away from it.

The Granny Cabin Quilt Pattern is available in the shop now!
