I wanted to write a pattern that was simple and easy to use all different kinds of precuts - Fat Quarters, Fat Eighths, 1/4 yards, Layer Cakes, Yardage! This pattern is made from all Half Square Triangles (HST). I love the versatility of the HST.
You can make this pattern with a specific background fabric so that every single HST has one matching fabric, OR you can make it with no background fabric and it creates a more scrappy look. Here are a few mock ups of different ways you can make this pattern.

For my pattern sample, I decided to use this beautiful line of fabric called Petunia by Kim Kight for Ruby Star Society.
The Petunia Fabric Collection includes 31 prints and I only needed 28 for the Large Throw size which finishes at 63" x 72". I took out the two red prints and only of the navy ones.
The Sugar Quilt Pattern uses the 4-at-a-time method of making HSTs. So you pair up 2 squares and from that, you get (4) HSTs. So you work block by block and it is super satisfying and simple.
I didn't have a game plan on the layout, just did what made me happy. I made sure to keep all the angles of the HST facing the same direction. Then I sewed them into their rows and then into the quilt.
I sent this quilt off to Kaitlyn of Knot + Thread Designs. We used the Peak Blooms pantograph and it's a fun bubbly floral pantograph. We used a pretty pink thread too. And then we bound the quilt with the (3) leftover FQs from the original stack.
We made one more Sugar Quilt during the summer too! Here are a couple of photos of our two samples together. I will blog about it next!
