Simple Joys - Seaside Quilt

Simple Joys - Seaside Quilt

We are back on the Simple Joys train - today we are sharing our Seaside Quilt!
Before we go any further, you can catch up on the other Simple Joys Samples we have shared so far: The Confetti Simple Joys and the Cover Simple Joys!
The Simple Joys Quilt pattern is TCJ's newest release! It is beginner friendly and a quick sew! Grab your favorite FQs and some background fabric and let's go!
This Simple Joys was our first quilt we made for this release. It was our test quilt for this design and I wanted to play with prints and solids. I grabbed a selection of florals, ginghams and some repetitive prints in this lovely palette warm and cool color palette.
Before we cut into this fabric, I decided to make a mock up to make sure I liked how it was looking and played with different background ideas. Here is where we landed which uses Bella Feather has the background fabric.
I love how the gingham pops in the Cross Blocks. This sample makes the Small Throw which requires 5 FQs for the Bar Blocks and 4 FQs for the Cross Blocks with 1 3/4 yards needed of background fabric. We dove into cutting and sewing and I forgot to take any photos of that process. Woops!
We put all of our blocks up on our design wall and it was the first time seeing the Simple Joys design come to life! So fun and I do love how the Bar Blocks sometimes alternate between vertical and horizontal positions. This creates a subtle movement throughout the quilt top.
Once all of the blocks are laid out, it's time to sew them into rows. And then you don't need to press any seams until all of the rows are assembled. By pressing the rows opposite directions, the seams all nest and it comes together quickly!
This Seaside Simple Joys shows the Small Throw size which finishes at 48" x 60".
I sent this quilt off to Emily of So Sunny Quilts and I requested a classic pantograph I haven't used in years - Pebbles! It creates this beautiful bubble texture across the quilt top. I think it was a fun way to lean away all of the straight lines in the piecing.
We backed this quilt top in one of my favorite ginghams - Carolina Gingham in 1" black and white fabric and then bound it in a 1/2 yard cut of Bella Citrine.
The texture is so soft and beautiful. The combination of the quilting design and the colors is why we named it Seaside. It reminds me of a coastal getaway.
We have two different bundles for this Seaside Simple Joys. You can purchase the FQs only or you can grab the whole kit which includes the FQs and the background fabric we used.
After we finished this quilt I was incredibly excited about this design and to keep making more samples! The Simple Joys Quilt pattern is available now
