Well, is this not the absolute sweetest little sample you've seen?? This was our second Plot Twist sample to be sewn up, and, with Phoenix QuiltCon top of mind, we named her Sedona. She's a small throw size, 48" x 48", which makes her the perfect size for warming a lap or snuggling a baby.
Plot Twist is an intermediate, block based pattern with nearly infinite possibilities. For our Sedona sample, we followed the Minimal Design path in the pattern. Similar to our Poolside sample, we used HYs in a variety of reds to add depth to the background, and our Color C fabrics were a selection of FQs all in tonal pinks and corals. We used a Speckled print - Macaron - as our accent in each block, but - and this is where the Minimal Design differs from the Colorful Design path used in Poolside - we paired it with a consistent Color C, a Starry Mini in Neon Pink. The result is a palette that feels calm and grounded, but still sparkles with movement.
Background Colors (all Bella): Tea Rose, Mandarin, Persimmon, and Longhorn.
Color C (all Bella): Baby Pink, Bubblegum, Cameo, and Amelia Pink.
At its core, Plot Twist is all strips and squares, so cutting it out (especially this baby size) takes no time at all. And then it's time to finish your prep by sewing your strips together.
Precision is your best friend with a Plot Twist quilt, so don't sleep on trimming those pieced squares up. A little bit of effort at this step will save you a big headache later on. But with the Minimal Design, once you're done with the trimming, you can go to town chain piecing your squares together.
Is there anything more satisfying than working through a stack of chain piecing? It didn't take long to finish up the pieced sides of these blocks, which just left matching up their corresponding background, sewing final seams, and trimming to size.
See? Doesn't it sparkle? The glowy solids, the neon in the Starry, that fun pop of lilac in the Speckled...I just love how this sample turned out.
And we're almost there, only one Plot Twist release sample to share! It was exciting to see so many people take these in in real time at QuiltCon, and now they are out in the world for everyone! Whether you are seeing these samples for the first time as we share them, or you saw them up close and personal in our booth, I hope these blogs have brought you joy learning more about how these quilts came to be.
