Peanut Butter Quilt - the Scrappy One

Peanut Butter Quilt - the Scrappy One

IThe Peanut Butter Quilt is a FREE Quilt Pattern by Meghan of Then Came June. It is available for download now!
The Peanut Butter Cover Quilt is on the blog too! Read that first if you want some background on the pattern design and the journey it took for me to get here.
I didn't even finish my first Peanut Butter Quilt before I dove into my personal stash to pull fabrics for the scrappy version I wanted to make. I didn't have a plan or idea of what I wanted to make before I went to my fabric. But as I opened the cabinets and stared at my color coordinated stacks, the idea of raspberry lemonade popped into my head.
I have a deep love for all yellows, pinks, corals and blues. And it is so obvious when you look at the fabric stash I have. These color stacks are huge. I pulled out lots of different fabrics and again, didn't have an idea of "I need this many pinks and this many yellows." I just went with whatever felt good.
Alysson and I tag teamed the cutting of this fabric. She worked on cutting out all of the low volume fabrics for the background squares and I cut all all of the strips and small squares. These are the final numbers we ended up at for how many fabrics per type of cut:
Background Squares - 28 different low volume fabrics
Strips - 35 different fabrics in pink, coral, yellows
Small Squares - 4 different blue fabrics
I couldn't start sewing these fabrics up fast enough. I was so antsy to just sew sew sew and see the idea come to life.
The Peanut Butter Pattern is a chain piecing dream. Alysson said this is her favorite kind of quilt to make. You start with your large piles of individual pieces, then you sew some together, then you keep sewing things together and your piles keep getting smaller and smaller while your quilt gets larger and larger. It is a pretty therapeutic make. You see your effort immediately paying off. So satisfying!
The only intentionality we had when sewing our pieces together was to make sure that our low volume squares were not the same in a single Peanut Butter Block. Also, that our strips were different fabrics within a single block. Oh! Also, there are a few prints with cats and tigers and we tried to make sure they were directionally correct.
The Peanut Butter Quilt is assembled in quadrants. I chose this so there wouldn't be a bunch of long sashing seams. Oh also! This quilt uses completely nested seams which I love. I didn't use a single pin!
You can see all the quadrants above and now it is just sewing those last final seams!
Oh my goodness!! I super super super love this quilt. As Alysson and I were sewing it together, I knew I would keep this personally. It is so joyful and fun and happy.
This quilt has so many different beloved fabrics I have saved for years. Some as old as 2015 or longer. And I am putting every leftover scrap back in my collection. I am so happy with how this top turned out.

I was so excited when I realized I had this beautiful blue wideback fabric from Ruby Star Society. It is the perfect compliment to the bright blue squares on the front and all of the coral/pink tones of the strips too.
I sent this off at the same time as the Cover Peanut Butter Quilt to Emily of So Sunny Quilts. And I saw a new to me pantograph called the 6 Petal Flower and knew it would be the perfect match! The quilting has tons of movement and is whimsical and provides stellar texture.
I bound this quilt in Kona Sassy Pink. It is a bright, happy true pink and it frames the quilt beautifully. I also love the contrast on the back it gives against the blue floral fabric.

This pattern has brought me so much enjoyment and excitement. It's been a long while since I've really sewn for fun and felt satisfaction of a quilt make. I hope you guys enjoy making your own Peanut Butter Quilt Patterns!
