Our newest pattern, Color Parade, is out NOW!! And before we dive into the details on our next sample, we'll once again remind you that we have an information blogpost that gives the whole 411 on this pattern - the why behind it, tips and tricks for success, etc.
Now to this absolute beauty: our Indian Block Print sample.

When Fableism released their Indian Block Prints: Cottage line of fabrics in spring of 2026, we were already planning out Color Parade samples, and knew right away that this line was screaming to be half of a Color Parade. Those vintage-y florals, and yummy, jewel-tones? Not to mention to absolute unbeatable softness of the fabric itself.

Some decisions on this sample were made quickly. We knew we wanted all of the Indian Block Print fabrics to be our B Fabrics, rather than try to divide them by color. There are 16 fabrics in the line, and we need 14 for the Large Throw (64" x 80") size, so we set two prints aside and had our set of B Fabrics. The A Fabrics were a different story.
Our first attempt was to pick up another beloved Fableism line: Watercolor Wovens. This seemed like an obvious choice, as the colors actually pair really nicely with the colors in the Indian Block Print line. But, for us, for this sample, for the quilters we are, it just felt like it was missing something. We stared at it (our beautiful stacks of fabric) and stared at it, and neither of us were feeling it. A solid paired with a print? On repeat the whole way through the quilt? Who were we kidding. That's not us. So to the stash fabric we went, and out came some stripes, and some wovens, and some more florals, and, yes, some solids. But, there, there it was. Folks, never believe them when they say less is more. Sometimes more is exactly what is missing.

With our fabrics decided, we got to cutting. Hot tip: We recommend keeping all cuts together from a single FQ or HY, and then within that, stacking your pieces by what you will need for a single unit. This will make it easier when it comes to mixing + matching your unit pieces. Here are our cut stacks waiting to be mixed + matched.

Mix + Match time! We paired one set of A cuts with one set of B cuts...

...and then sewed them together to make Color Parade units. Each unit is 1/4 of a Color Parade block. We sewed all of our units together before assembling them into their final blocks.

These really are so fun and satisfying to make. We usually work four at a time, and use diagonal seam tape to make the process go even faster. And these blocks were especially fun to watch come together as we started to see all of the different patterns and colors and textures start to play with each other. Once all of our units were done, we put them up on the design wall where they really came together for the first time.

From here, we sewed our units into their blocks. I know I said laying it out is when the whole things starts to come together, but trust me, it just gets better and better from here.

We backed this sample in Bella Merlot and then Emily at So Sunny Quilts quilted the Needlework pantograph by Anne Bright in a pale blue thread. The finishing touch was to bind her in Bella Amber.

It's so yummy. I wish you all could somehow feel the texture of this one through the screen. Like smell-a-vision, or scratch-n-sniff, but for feeling yummy quilt texture. You'll just have to take our word that this is absolutely tasty.
Until the next one!
