We are just under two months out from QuiltCon 2025, and, as Then Came June will be first time vendors, deeeeep in prep for it. So I'd like to take you back to last year's QuiltCon, when Meghan and Luke took off for all the fun in Raleigh, NC and left me with a quilt project to keep me out of trouble.
With only three colors in this palette, we knew one of them needed to pop like crazy. Feather, Pale Pink, and Electric Lemon - all Bella solids - were the perfect trio.
Color Chaos is a pattern that we sometimes hear feels intimidating, and it's true that the sheer amount of fabrics in the Color Explosion version requires a definite system to stay organized. But when it comes to putting it together, it's just the same process over and over again. And when sewing the Modern Solid version, as we did here, it's even simpler as the colors stay in their same position all the way through the quilt, making every block exactly the same in its construction.
So, while Meghan was off meeting and greeting many of you, I posted up at my dining room table and chain pieced my heart out. To set the full scene, I believe I was deep in a Grey's Anatomy re-watch while these were in process, so lots of drama was sewn up into these stitches.
And maybe binging a medical drama during this project was appropriate as Sparkle Color Chaos will forever be remembered as the quilt that nearly broke my brain. It turns out that the same contrast that makes for the fun, sparkly effect in this quilt is also a migraine trigger for me. I quickly learned to sew with Electric Lemon facing away from me when I could. It was all worth it in the end, though.
By the time Luke and Meghan returned from their QuiltCon adventures, this top was ready to be fully put together.
I mean, just look at that sparkle! We couldn't get enough!
It's just so delicious. If you agree, you're in luck...we still have kits available to make this exact quilt. Or, if you want to skip all that, and just bring this very quilt home, it is also available!
