Champagne - the Bubbles one

Champagne - the Bubbles one

Between mid-December 2024 and the beginning of February 2025 (with our kids' two week winter break thrown in there) we sewed up SEVEN new samples to bring along with us to QuiltCon in Phoenix this year.  SEVEN.  By the time we were finished, I swear my presser foot foot was permanently in the "accelerate" position, and I was dreaming about running out of bobbin thread at night.  But the extra chiropractor appointments and bad dreams were worth it, because we brought some magical quilts into existence.
Today, I'd like to introduce you to our newest Champagne sample, Bubbles.
Champagne Bubbles is a Large Throw, finishing at 60" x 75".  We made her in the Modern Solid Stars style, and used yardage for all of our cuts.  We wanted this sample to feel soft and airy, so stayed pretty light and understated in the background and Irish Chain fabrics.  That gives the punchy purple stars their moment to (literally) shine.  We couldn't have been more pleased with how this palette turned out in real life, and have these exact bundles available in our shop!

With only seven fabrics to contend with, cutting went fast, and then it was time to dive into construction.
When making a Champagne Quilt, step one is to make all your Irish Chain components.  Whether you are using yardage, FQs, or sewing scrappy, this step is all about the chain piecing.  And you all know how much we love our chain piecing.  Zoom Zoom!

After all that chain piecing, it's time to trim trim trim.  You're going to be here a while, so we recommend finding a movie, or TV series, or maybe even a thrilling new audiobook to keep you moving. But after all the trimming, you get to reward yourself with even more chain piecing.

Because we were using yardage to make the Modern Solid Star style, our chain piecing fun didn't end with our Irish Chain pieces.  We gathered up our Crystal Star components and sat down to chain piece those into our square-in-a-square centers and flying geese points.

And with that, we had everything we needed to begin assembling our full blocks.  While chain piecing this step is possible, we kept ourselves organized by working a handful of blocks at a time, breaking our chain piecing into to more manageable bites.

After all that chain piecing, twenty blocks were done.  We spent some time admiring them in all of their glowy glory, and then it was time to sew the final seams and put the whole thing together.

Emily of So Sunny Quilts quilted our Bubbles sample in the Winter Star pantograph, after backing her in a Ruby Star Favorite Flowers Balmy wideback.  Champagne Bubbles bound in Bella Cyclamen, which is the same color we used in our Crystal Stars.

After the finishing touches, our girl got her time to shine before we packed her up for the journey to QuiltCon.

We chose to use a light variegated thread, it is hard to capture on camera but it is subtle and lovely.

So there she is, Champagne Bubbles, sample one of the seven new quilts that came with us to QuiltCon.  Stay tuned as we introduce the rest to the blog!
